WINSLOW, AZ — An 11-day-old infant from Surprise was located near Winslow Saturday after reportedly being abducted, according to the Navajo County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say they received an alert to locate a suspect vehicle in connection with an abduction. They later located the suspect vehicle on Interstate 40 near Winslow and safely recovered the infant.
The baby was taken to a hospital as a precaution and is awaiting reunification with his mother, deputies said.
Surprise police say the newborn's biological father, who does not have custodial rights, took the baby without permission.
"Any incident involving an infant is one that law enforcement takes very seriously," said Sheriff David Clouse. "We are incredibly grateful that this infant was located safely and returned unharmed. This successful recovery is a testament to the outstanding partnership between our law enforcement agencies. The timely sharing of information, combined with the coordinated efforts of every agency involved, made it possible to quickly locate the vehicle and bring this incident to a safe resolution. We appreciate the professionalism, communication, and teamwork demonstrated by everyone involved."
The investigation remains ongoing.
No charges have been filed, according to police.
