FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - An Italian real estate company has restarted a process to develop its land outside the Grand Canyon's South Rim.
Stilo Development Group USA and the town of Tusayan are asking the U.S. Forest Service for permission to improve forest roads and run utility lines to their property.
The Forest Service previously said the development would "substantially and adversely" affect the Grand Canyon and nearby tribal lands.
Stilo spokesman Andy Jacobs says the proposal reflects changes in water use and the size of the development.
The Kaibab National Forest is reviewing the proposal to see if it aligns with existing laws and regulations. If that proposal clears, an environmental review and public comment would follow.
More than 6 million people pass through Tusayan annually on their way to the Grand Canyon.
