GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — The city of Goodyear has a new police chief. Santiago Rodriguez was promoted to top cop for the city Monday after serving as acting chief since October amid an investigation of his predecessor.

Jerry Geier had been Goodyear police chief for almost eight years before he was fired in December following allegations of misconduct.

City officials at the time didn't detail the allegations, but said they were not criminal or financial in nature.

Rodriguez has spent most of his 24 years in law enforcement in the Goodyear department, working in every division including patrol, traffic, criminal investigations and community services.
