Tucson police shut down the intersection of First Ave. and Fort Lowell Saturday to clear a deadly wreck involving a truck and motorcycle. The road reopened before noon.
The wreck happened at 5:30 a.m. The motorcyclist, 34-year-old Nicholas Rollins, was lying on the ground and transported to Banner University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Rollins was riding a 2004 Yamaha Sports Motorcycle eastbound on Fort Lowell at high speed. He ran a red light and hit a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was going northbound into the intersection. The driver of the truck showed no signs of impairment and was not speeding. The investigation is ongoing. No citations have been issued.
