TUCSON, Ariz. - A University of Arizona astronomy professor is getting ready for a 930-mile bike race to raise money for charity.
Eric Pearce, who has raced bikes competitively for 35 years, will be taking part in Race Across the West, which starts June 11 in Oceanside, Calif. and ends in Durango, Colo. He's partnering with Arizona Greyhound Rescue.
Pearce owns two greyhounds.
"They really changed our lives," he said. "Greyhounds are just wonderful animals they need a home when they are retired from racing and a lot of the race across the west athletes look for charity partners."
Pearce seeks to qualify for Race Across America.
