TUCSON, Ariz. — Two people have died after reportedly running from U.S. Border Patrol agents near Arivaca. It happened around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department says the agency, Three Points Fire Department and the Arivaca Fire Department responded to the scene.

On Friday, Jan. 31, PCSD identified the victims as 37-year-old Constantino Bautista Cruz and 28-year-old Efrain Medrano-Morales -- both citizens of Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says agents tried to stop a vehicle. The alleged driver, a 17-year-old, did not stop and and crashed shortly after. CBP says two of the people in the car died, and three people were taken to the hospital.

Their conditions have not been released.

CBP said the people in the vehicle were smuggling, but has not released details on what was in the vehicle.

The 17-year-old was arrested for 2 counts of 1st degree murder, 2 counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage, unlawful flight from law enforcement, and DUI.

PCSD is conducting the follow-up investigation regarding the one-vehicle crash.
