TUCSON, Ariz. - The Tucson Unified School District is continuing to look to other countries to fill teaching vacancies.

The school district first decided to begin looking for school teachers overseas two years ago.

In the 2018-2019 school year, the district brought aboard 13 teachers from India, according go TUSD Human Resources Director, Renee Heusser.

Those teachers helped fill math, science and other STEM positions across the district.

For the 2019-2020 school year TUSD decided to once again look abroad to help fill other vacant positions across the district.

In this school year, the district hired 17 teachers from the Philippines.

Those teachers took on positions all across the district.

In the upcoming school year Heusser said the district is hoping to look to Mexico to hire teachers. The hope is those teachers could potentially help fill language vacancies.
