TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System’s main Tucson VA campus opened a Transgender Clinic on Wednesday, Dec.16.
The clinic will be offered on the third Wednesday of each month and will be located on the second floor of Building 81.
The clinic will provide medical care, mental health, pharmaceutical and social work services specific to transgender Veterans.
Doctor Sonia Perez-Padilla said this clinic has been long over due to serve all who have served this country.
"These veterans over the time have been underserved and the numbers are increasing. When our team first formed in 2012, we had 50 patients actively enrolled here. Now we are up to 30 and that number goes up every month, "she said.
Providers in the clinic specialize in transgender care and will be able to provide guidance and education regarding health care needs unique to transgender Veterans.
The VA is committed to providing the highest quality healthcare for all Veterans to include lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Veterans.
