Tucson flight to Atlanta delayed by bird strike

A scheduled flight from Tucson to Atlanta Friday morning was delayed due to a bird possibly flying into the engine.

According to airport spokeswoman Jessie Butler, Delta Flight 1345, which was scheduled to depart at 6:09 a.m., was on the runway attempting to take off when at least one bird hit the nose of the plane before potentially being sucked into an engine.

The pilot aborted the flight, and all passengers deplaned at the gate. Firefighters checked it out and verified there was no damage to the plane. It's possible that another plane could be switched with the current plane.

The brakes were still hot, so the plane had to stay on the runway until they cooled down.

The flight was delayed eight hours and will take off at about 2:09 p.m.
