TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson police say a crash involving a bicycle Sept. 16 has turned deadly.
Police say 25-year-old Rene Navarro Jr. died after he was injured on East Grant Road at North Estrella Avenue, east of Stone Avenue.
According to witnesses, a 2013 Jeep Patriot was heading westbound in the median lane of Grant Road toward Estrella Avenue. Navarro was riding his bike northbound, crossing Grant Road at a westward angle when the Jeep hit him.
Navarro was not in a crosswalk and did not activate a nearby HAWK light. He was not wearing a helmet.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed and impairment were not deemed to have been factors in the wreck.
Navarro was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Police were informed Sept. 23 that he had died.
