TUCSON, Ariz. - Tucson Electric Power is warning customers about a scam targeting victims via phone calls and texts.

According to the utility, more than 500 customers have reported the scams, in which people claiming to be TEP employees threaten to disconnect their service unless they make immediate payments because autopay isn't working.

The calls come from spoofed numbers which mask their origin.

The scammers demand payment via a prepaid money card, often within an hour of the call.

TEP recommends hanging up on the call and report them to TEP at 623-7711.
