TUCSON, Ariz. - Sex with one of his students---that's the charge against a teacher and athletic trainer at Tanque Verde High School.
William Yaw -- known as Wylie -- is facing felony charges -- that could range up to -- 12 and a half years in prison.
Pima Sheriff's deputies say Wylie Yaw admitted a sexual relationship with a girl who was one of his students at the time. Having sex with a minor is a Class Six felony. That behavior from a position of trust like a teacher kicks up the charges to much more serious Class Two.
Yaw worked at Tanque Verde High School as a sports medicine teacher and athletic trainer.
Court documents say the student in this case told a friend she'd been in a sexual relationship with Wylie Yaw. The friend told her mother. She told school officials and they told authorities.
Detectives say the girl denied the relationship, then admitted it a day later.
They say she told them she was "... In Mr. Yaw's class during a hard time in her life and would talk to him about problems at home."
He added her to social media platforms like SnapChat and Instagram.
The report says, "They began sending nude photos to each other at Mr. Yaw's request."
Detectives say the underaged girl described sex with Yaw at the training room in Tanque Verde High.
Investigators say Yaw admited having sex with the girl twice at his apartment and said, ...He was in a bad place emotionally...." at the time.
Yaw is free on bond but required to stay away from the school and the alleged victim.
The girl has moved to a different school.
