Surveillance photos of bank robber released

Posted

The Marana Police Department has released new surveillance photos of Jesus Rael, the man who led police on a high speed chase, stole two cars and shot at officers.

The photos were from inside the Bank of America at Cortaro and I-10 Wednesday.

Marana police detectives obtained a felony armed robbery arrest warrant for Rael in connection to the bank robbery that happened on Wednesday.

Marana police say before Rael's crime spree yesterday, they had notified surrounding agencies that he was wanted in connection to the robbery.

Surveillance photos from inside the bank helped identify Rael, according to Marana police.

An alert citizen provided detectives a license plate number for the vehicle that was driven by Rael.

Marana police say that the white 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt used during the bank robbery was the same vehicle he was driving when crashed on I-19 and Ajo during a pursuit with Marana police.

Two officers were involved in Thursday's officer-involved shooting that happened on I-19 and Ajo.

Marana police has identified the officers as Officer Gabriel Tapia and Officer Abel Samano.

Samano has been a police officer for 10 years and Tapia has worked as a police officer for 5 years.

Neither officer was injured during the incident and both have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
