TUCSON, Ariz. - According to a National Council for Home Safety and Security report, Arizona has one of the top syphilis infection rates in the country.

The study says Arizona ranks fifth in primary and secondary syphilis rates per 100,000 people. Its 13.6 rate trails only national leader Nevada (20), California (17.1), Louisiana (14.5) and Georgia (14.4).

Arizona does not show up among the top states with chlamydia or gonorrhea.

The NCHSS used data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and U.S. Census databases.
