The Better Business Bureau says scammers are targeting high school and college students more than ever.

KGUN9's Alexa Liacko reports that the cons often involve fake checks, money orders, online purchases, fake offers of employment or scholarships.

Another notorious scam involves phone numbers popping onto computer screens in online ads, baiting users to call to get their student loan payments reduced.

Scams targeting students typically rob them of about $200.

The BBB recommends avoiding wire transfers, as well as online debit transactions. If an offer seems too good to be true, the BBB warns, it probably is.
