SAVING WITH $AM: Comparing meal kits

Posted

Good Morning Tucson anchor Samantha Cortese broke down the meal kit trend to see whether it saves you money.

With a $14.99 product, Amazon has joined the home delivery trend to compete with Blue Apron, Hello Fresh and other meal kit services.

Cortese put the Amazon offering to the test by using one of its recipes that cost $7.50 per serving.

She went to the grocery store to pic up the same ingredients, then broke down the numbers to see which route was cheaper.

Surprisingly, both methods ended up costing the same amount.

The tradeoff is that you'll have plenty of leftover ingredients by going the grocery store route.

However, if you stick with Amazon, you'll save time on shopping and measuring everything out.
