Raytheon adapts missile to shoot down drones

Posted

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -Isis has started to use drones on the battlefield.  They're small, maneuverable and hard to hit.

Now Raytheon, based in Tucson, just successfully used its Stinger missiles to shoot down two drones.

Warfighters are familiar with the Stinger.  It's been used for many years but Raytheon changed the warhead to help it knock down small drones.

The new warhead uses a proximity fuse so the missile doesn't have to actually hit the small targets it simply explodes close enough to knock down the drones.
