TUCSON, Ariz. - Four Tucson-area teachers are among five Arizonans honored by President Donald Trump Tuesday.
Sally Stevens of the University of Arizona received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.
Svea Anderson of Agua Caliente Elementary School, Amee Legarra of Richardson Elementary School and Nicole Whitt, Empire High School all received Excellence Awards in Science, Mathematics and Engineering. Deborah Nipar of Chandler Hamilton High School was the other Arizona teacher honored.
Teachers from all 50 states received recognition. The awards were established in 1983, and were chosen by a panel of mathematicians, sciences and educators who assessed applications. Teachers were chosen based on their dedication to improving STEM education.
