Tucson police identified the knife-wielding suspect an officer shot and killed Tuesday. Police say 19-year veteran Raul Navarro shot and killed 27-year-old Charles Hutchison, who threatened people in the middle of the intersection with a knife at Alvernon at Grant Tuesday.

According to Sgt. Pete Dugan, Hutchinson was threatening to stab people in the area.

Officers nearby arrived on scene and approached the man after seeing that he was armed. The man then ran towards the nearby Circle K. Dugan says the officers followed the man and an altercation occurred resulting in Navarro firing his gun and striking the suspect multiple times.

Police say Hutchinson was transported to the hospital and later passed away.

This investigation is ongoing and more information is expected to be released.

No officers were injured in this incident.
