Tucson police responded to reports of a man in the middle of the intersection with a knife at Alvernon at Grant Tuesday.
According to Sgt. Pete Dugan, the man was threatening to stab people in the area.
Officers nearby arrived on scene and approached the man after seeing that he was armed. The man then ran towards the nearby Circle K. Dugan says the officers followed the man and an altercation occurred resulting in one officer firing his gun and striking the suspect multiple times.
Police say the man was transported to the hospital and later passed away.
This investigation is ongoing and more information is expected to be released.
No officers were injured in this incident.
