TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson police shut down the intersection of Broadway and Tucson Boulevard due to a deadly wreck Tuesday morning.
According to TPD, officers and firefighters responded to reports of a crash involving two vehicles, with one of the cars fully engulfed in flames.
When the flames were extinguished, officials discovered the driver and passenger were dead inside the vehicle. The driver was identified Thursday night as 19-year-old Rudy Rene LeLeon. The passenger was identified Friday as 17-year-old Cesar Alejandro Valenzuela.
After further investigation, detectives learned an Acura was traveling westbound on Broadway at a high rate of speed when it collided with a Ford Explorer that was heading southbound on Tucson Blvd.
The Acura then caught fire after the collision.
"Detectives are still attempting to identify the passenger. Roadway evidence has determined that excessive speed was the major factor in the collision," TPD said.
This investigation is ongoing.
