Pinal County authorities have identified a man fatally shot by sheriff's deputies as he allegedly tried to run over a deputy during a confrontation in San Tan Valley.
Sheriff's officials identified the man killed as 55-year-old Bender Dass of San Tan Valley.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the incident began late Friday night when a pickup twice rear-ended a car at an intersection. A chase then ensued, leading to a confrontation in a dirt lot the suspect's truck began driving in circles.
Sheriff's officials say the truck then drove head-on into the patrol vehicle of a sergeant, who suffered minor injuries and got out of his vehicle.
Officials say the truck began speeding toward the sergeant, who with another sergeant and a lieutenant fired their weapons, fatally wounding Dass.
