Pima Animal Care Center's "Pup in Boots" program sees success

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Pima Animal Care Center's "Pup in Boots" program is continuing to see success nearly a year after starting.

The program aims to collect and donate pet essentials the homeless.

"Pup in Boots" started after a PACC volunteer noticed a homeless owner and their pet walking on hot asphalt without dog booties. From that point on, the organization began collecting dog booties and handing them out to the homeless.

PACC volunteers visit three locations a week to give out the items including Z Mansion, Gospel Rescue Mission and the Primavera Foundation.

The program frequently runs through items such as collapsible bowls, dog booties, leashes and collars.

Volunteers with the program helped more than 250 homeless pet owners during the month of November. They also distributed more than 1,200 pounds of dogs food and gave out more than 0 dog leashes.

The program is always accepting monetary donations to purchase essential items.

You can even drop off new or gently used dog items that they can then give to someone in need.
