PETA billboard plays on immigration debate

A new billboard urges freeway drivers to "keep all families together."

Paid for by PETA, the billboard argues that eating beef separates families of cows.

The billboard, which reads "Don't Separate Any Loving Mothers From Their Children: Go Vegan," is at 6900 Interstate 10 Frontage Road. It will be up until Aug. 5.

The billboard is a commentary on a federal government policy that separates immigrant family from children. Immigrant children are held in Tucson and other cities in Arizona.

"PETA's billboard offers a message of universal compassion in a shameful time," says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk, in a statement. "No loving family should ever be broken up by outsiders with their own agendas, and that includes the mother cows whose calves are stolen from them on dairy farms."
