PCSD: 1 dead after wreck in Three Points

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Pima County Sheriff's deputies investigated a wreck in Three Points Monday.

According to the department, deputies responded to the crash at South Cherokee Lane and West Scotland Road around 6:37 a.m. for a crash involving two trucks.

The investigation showed that a Nissan pickup truck traveling northbound on Cherokee Ln., where it failed to stop for the stop sign, colliding with a Chevy Silverado, according to PCSD. The driver of the Nissan then fled the scene with two passengers who remained in the vehicle.

PCSD says one adult male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second occupant was taken to the hospital non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan is identified as 20-year-old Alejandro Herrera.

No injuries were reported from the only occupant of the Chevy, PCSD says.

During the search for Herrera, detectives were told that he was taken to the hospital.

He was then arrested and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center for Manslaughter, Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Collision, Reckless driving, and other felonies, according to the department.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
