TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — A 19-year-old man has died after a deputy involved shooting early Wednesday morning.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department said the situation began around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Overton and La Cholla. They got calls at that time reporting a man breaking into cars in the neighborhood.

They identified him as 19-year-old Bradley Lewis.

Later in the morning, deputies reportedly saw a car matching the description of Lewis' car in a Casas Adobes neighborhood.

According to PCSD, they tried to pull the driver over just before 7 a.m. on Paseo De Angel near Positano Way. Lewis did not stop for deputies and drove away to a home nearby.

Deputies said Lewis rammed a patrol car in his attempt to get away.

PCSD said deputies tried to take Lewis into custody and shots were fired, hitting the man.

Sheriff's officials said they performed CPR on the scene, and then Lewis was taken to the hospital, where he died.

PCSD said the deputy involved is identified as Deputy Gilbert Caudillo, he fired his weapon during the shooting. As part of the department's policy, he was placed on administrative leave, in which an administrative investigation will be conducted.

Deputy Caudillo has been with the department for 20 years.

PCSD said no deputies were injured.

The criminal investigation remains ongoing.
