Northern Arizona getting wintry weather

Posted
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Roads and highways are slippery across northern Arizona and some communities have closed schools due to wintry weather conditions that include heavy snowfall.

Up to 8 inches of snow are expected in Flagstaff by Monday evening.

Forecasters say snow showers will increase through Monday morning, following by another period of heavy snowfall late in the day.

The Arizona Department of Transportation early Monday reported slower than normal traffic on Interstate 40 between U.S. 93 and Flagstaff and several slide-offs on I-40 east of Flagstaff and on State Route 89 south of Ash Fork. The Prescott area also has poor driving conditions.

The Flagstaff and Williams school districts closed schools on Monday.

Rain fell in central and southern Arizona but widespread freezing temperatures were forecast overnight through Wednesday or Thursday mornings.
