A NASA scientist is promoting better learning through physical activity as a way to help high-functioning students on the autism spectrum.
Joan Vernikos visited the air and space academy in Tucson and Green Valley today to see how students are performing under a pilot program that uses her research as a foundation.
Leaders of the program say they're studying how physical activity can improve cognition in children with autism.
There are openings available in the pilot program for high-functioning students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
The deadline to enroll in this program is October 4.
