UPDATE (3:31 p.m., Dec. 30): According to a news release from Pima County Sheriff's Department, a deputy had pulled over the driver while conducting traffic enforcement near Cienega High School. The driver, a juvenile, was driving 65 miles per hour in a 35 miles-per-hour zone.

The deputy located a handgun on the passenger-side floorboard of the vehicle. The deputy secured the handgun and asked the driver if there were any additional weapons in the vehicle. The driver drove off at a high rate of speed.

Pima County Sheriff's Department did not pursue, but did still have the recovered gun.

The gun was later confirmed to be stolen, the news release said, and the vehicle was registered to a nearby address. Deputies returned to the area for a follow-up where they located the vehicle, which had been involved in a crash, the news release said.

Witnesses on the scene said the vehicle passed them in a no-passing zone at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, the news release said. The driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen firearm, and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash caused a power outage in the area. The road was closed for more than 12 hours while Tucson Electric Power made repairs.

The driver's name will not be released because the driver was a minor. The driver is facing several felony charges.
