TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Marana police say a K9 officer has died.
Police say Atlas died Wednesday night while on duty, and that Marana and Tucson police worked with Pima Animal Care Center on Atlas's ceremonial escort.
Marana police released this statement:
K9 Officer Barton was riding with his K9 partner, Atlas. Towards the end of their shift, Officer Barton recognized Atlas was unusually quiet. Officer Barton immediately stopped his vehicle to check on his partner and found K9 Atlas deceased. Atlas’ death was unexpected and a necropsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of his death.
