Man who engaged in shootout with officer convicted of attempted murder

TUCSON, Ariz. - A man who shot at a Tucson police officer at a traffic stop was convicted of attempted murder.

Police say Antajuan Stewart Carson was critically injured in March during the traffic stop. Officer Alvaro Silva stopped the vehicle Carson was driving in the 5100 block of East First Street. Carson stopped, then shot at Silva, who returned fire and shot Carson three times.

Carson, who was also sentenced for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, will be sentenced Dec. 12.
