TUCSON, Ariz. - The Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich saga continues to escalate. Chattanooga, Tenn. man Craig Barr is taking the passion to the extreme, suing Popeyes for running out of the coveted sandwich.
According to the Times Free Press, the man is suing Popeye's for false advertising and deceptive business practices, as well as making him waste time driving around town trying to find the sandwich.
He's seeking $5,000 in the civil suit.
"I can't get happy; I have this sandwich on my mind. I can't think straight," he told the Times Free Press Thursday. "It just consumes you."
Popeye's has been selling the sandwiches since Aug. 12, sparking a Twitter feud against other fast food chains. The sandwich has sold out rapidly, sparking long lines. NBA star Tristan Thompson became a folk hero by buying the sandwiches for a crowd of eager sandwich fans in Los Angeles.
In an Aug. 27 tweet, Popeyes said it's sold out of the sandwich but working on bringing it back soon.
Y’all. We love that you love The Sandwich. Unfortunately we’re sold out (for now). pic.twitter.com/Askp7aH5Rr
