TUCSON, Ariz. - John David Ward, who was convicted in a 2016 hit-and-run that seriously injured a bicyclist, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday.
He received credit for 206 days served.
The bicyclist was riding northbound on 11th along the eastern curb when a white passenger car left a parking lot at the corner of Rillito and Oracle. The car was following a light-colored truck. The driver of the car ran the stop sign at 11th and made a wide turn, hitting the bicyclist. Both drivers left the scene.
After surveillance video was released, detectives received multiple tips that led them to the arrest of Ward.
Ward was convicted of leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, as well as aggravated assault resulting in a serious physical injury.
