TUCSON, Ariz. - If you drive Broadway between Camino Seco and Houghton you've been getting used to some changes. You'll need to get used to more change as of Monday.
Broadway is a major road headed for major changes. From Camino Seco to Houghton it's slated for a widening to four lanes with new sidewalks and other features.
But construction disruption is the price of the change and there's more coming soon.
Crews are adding extra temporary lanes to the northern edge of Broadway so traffic can shift there. That will keep traffic out of southern lanes so workers can tear them up to add drainage and water lines.
The traffic shift is scheduled to last through this coming February.
But business owners like Bill Arnoldy of FireBall Tech worry when anything affects the roads that bring them their customers.
"We rely on foot traffic and people driving by to say, ‘Hey, there's a company there,’ and at that point when they start diverting themselves because of road construction, our business drops."
Yvonne Haskins of Girlfriends's Closet has been fearing the worst.
"We think construction you think chaos and delays by for myself for this area here It hasn't really been a nuisance to me coming to work or driving or in delays so it's been pretty fair so far.
And the businesses say the City of Tucson is offering marketing advice to help keep business up while they wait for the benefits when the road work is done.
