TUCSON, Ariz. — The Klaus Fire burned 2,900 acres, and is 30 percent contained in the Coronado National Forest, 11 miles southwest of Portal in Cochise County, according to the Forest Service. There are approximately 80 fire personnel working the fire.
On Friday, two crews, four engines, two dozers and a helicopter fought the fire.
On Sturday, smoke is expected to increase while firefighters starts operations, according to the Forest Service. Crews will use drip torches and flares to place fire on the ground in safe, predetermined locations. The strategy is to burn vegetation ahead of the fire, removing fuel to stop forward progress.
There are road closures in place for Forest Roads 314, 686, and 685.
