KGUN9 newscast wins 'Best of Tucson' honors

TUCSON, Ariz. - Readers of a local weekly publication voted KGUN9's newscast as the best in town.

Tucson Weekly announced its Best of Tucson awards this week. KGUN9 earned the top spot in the Best TV Newscast category, repeating its 2018 victory.

"KGUN 9 brings you the TV news you need: Breaking stories, outrageous crimes, up-to-the-minute weather and sports coverage all shine on the morning, afternoon and evening newscasts," the Weekly wrote. "The morning crew will get you going and the evening crew will help you wind down. After all, they're 9 On Your Side."

KVOA placed second, with KOLD rounding out the top 3.

KGUN9's Valerie Cavazos was ranked No. 2 in Best Local TV News Anchor, trailing KOLD's Dan Marries in the top spot, with KVOA's Priscilla Casper placing third.

In the Best Local Weatherperson category, April Madison placed second. KOLD's Lisa Villegas earned the top spot and KVOA's Matt Brode placed third.

In Best Local Sportscaster, KVOA's Paul Cicala was first, followed by Damien Alameda (KOLD) and Brian Jeffries (KVOA).

Tucson Weekly polls its readers annually, and also offers staff picks for Best of Tucson awards.
