TUCSON, Ariz. - Tucson police closed Houghton in both directions at Interstate 10 on August 31 due to a wreck. The road reopened in the 2 p.m. hour.
Both drivers were taken to a local hospital, one reportedly had serious injuries.
According to TPD, witnesses said a beige Toyota Camry was northbound on Houghton Road just north of Andrada Road, when it drifted across the center line into the southbound lanes of traffic.
The other vehicle, a gold BMW X3, swerved into the northbound lanes in an attempt to avoid the Toyota, when the Toyota corrected and swerved back into the northbound lanes, and the vehicles crashed head-on.
The wreck was between Adrada and Dawn Roads.
According to Sgt. Pete Dugan, the driver of the Toyota, 74-year-old Mary Elethorp, died at the hospital as a result of the crash on September 7.
