TUCSON, Ariz. -- Leroy Calderon Jr. was sentenced to life in prison Monday for the murder of his wife on I-10 last year.

Calderon received the life sentence for first degree murder, and received an additional total of 19.5 years on several other charges.

According to the Pima County Attorney's Office, Calderon, his wife, and 7-year-old son were driving down I-10 when him and his wife got into an argument. The Tucson man then forced the car into the median and started to fire shots, "when his wife opened the door to escape, Calderon shot her in the back, paralyzing her. She fell face first into the dirt. Calderon got out of the car and shot her in the back of the head, killing her."

Calderon was also convicted of one count each of domestic violence kidnapping, domestic violence aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence child abuse and domestic violence endangerment.
