TUCSON, Ariz. - A 7-year-old girl will be honored Thursday for her work in raising money to help pets in need.

The Huachuca City Council will praise Kalyssa White "for her hard work and unselfish act of compassion" at its 7 p.m. meeting Thursday. White earned praise for doing odd jobs, such as yard work, to raise enough money to underwrite adoption fees of two animals she felt were tough to adopt: Jeff, a pitbull mix, and Amore, a black cat with gold eyes.

Kalyssa also bought goodie bags filled with dog and cat treats, as well as leashes and collars and a dog bed to help the animals settle into their new homes.

Jeff was adopted Dec. 9, while Amore is still waiting for adoption.
