TUCSON, Ariz. — Ft. Huachuca is adhering to new training restrictions of Saudi Arabian military officers on base, a spokersperson confirmed Friday.

The news comes after a Saudi officer opened fire last week at a base in Pensacola, Florida, killing three sailors and wounding eight others.

A spokesperson for the base says new training restrictions come via a directive from the Department of Defense dated Wednesday, Dec. 11. The directive restricts the Saudi military officers to classroom training only.

The spokesperson said there are six Saudi officers currently training at Ft. Huachuca.

The restrictions will remain in place until the Department of Army or Defense rescinds or replaces the directive.

Ft. Huachuca spokesperson Tanja Linton says international military students come to the base to take part two courses designed to teach "leadership and intelligence doctrine and concepts."
