Florence prison death investigated as homicide

Arizona Department of Corrections officials are investigating an inmate death in the state prison complex in Florence as a potential homicide.

Inmate Apollo Ortega, 31, was found dead Monday.  He was transferred to Florence in 2009 and was serving two life sentences for first degree murder and attempted murder. The sentences were handed down by Pima County Superior Court. 

He was serving his sentence at the maximum custody Special Management Unit at Arizona State Prison Complex–Eyman.
