The driver from the single-vehicle rollover crash on Houghton Road that left a 16-year-old dead in January was sentenced Wednesday to 3.5 years in jail as part of a plea deal.
Michael Anthony Rivera received 3.5 years for aggravated assault with a simulated deadly weapon. He will serve a concurrent sentence of one year for aggravated harassment, domestic violence, and three years probation after his release for a lesser aggravation harassment, domestic violence charge.
Rivera was the driver of the green passenger car involved in the accident, which claimed the life of 16-year-old Julian Belin.
The vehicle carrying was traveling at excessive speeds, passing in a no passing area, lost control at a curve and rolled over.
Rivera is originally faced charges of 2nd-degree murder, aggravated DUI, three counts of aggravated assault and three counts of felony endangerment.
