A family of four evacuated their Douglas house due a fire Monday morning.
According to the Red Cross, which is assisting the displaced family, the fire started at 2:09 a.m. near 18th Street and C avenue.
Crews took an hour to put out the blaze, which destroyed a vacant home and spread to a second home and damaged the outside of the house and its window dressings. The family had to evacuate the second home because its utilities were shut off.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and volunteers are assessing the damages.
