TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Deputies responded to a single vehicle collision with a structure.

It happened near the intersection of Cardinal Avenue and Bilby Road around 4 this afternoon.

A deputy attempted to stop an SUV for a traffic violation. The SUV did not stop and continued eastbound on Bilby at a high rate of speed. It drove through the stop sign at Cardinal and Bilby, then left the roadway, and after going through a chain-link fence, collided with a residence in the 2800 block of West Bilby Road.

One resident was inside the home, but neither that resident nor the SUV's driver was injured.

The driver of the SUV was 37-year-old Nicholas Newell. He has been arrested and booked in the Pima County Adult Detention Complex for Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement, Criminal Damage, Endangerment, and Driving Under the Influence.
