Cochise County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Douglas.

Deputies say a Douglas police officer tried to stop a Honda Civic near 15th Street and Estrella. The driver didn't stop and turned off the headlights to try to get away. The driver headed east on State Route 80 before popping tires on a deflation advice set up by another police unit at mile post 380.

The car stopped after four more miles, then drove the vehicle toward approaching officers. One of the officers shot and injured the 49-year-old suspect, who was airlifted to a Tucson hospital for treatment.

Deputies closed State Route 80 for several hours to secure the scene Thursday morning. The road is now open. The officers involved in the incident, who weren't harmed, were placed on administrative leave, pending investigation.
