TUCSON, Ariz. - A Cochise County Sheriff’s deputy arrested a reckless driver Tuesday.

According to the department, a deputy followed a speeding driver with emergency flashers on westbound on Highway 90 east of Sierra Vista at 8:45 a.m.

The driver, 34-year-old Manuel Perez Jr., skidded into the Canyon Vista Medical Center parking lot. He got out of the car and made erratic movements. Perez threw himself in the ground.

Perez had a prescription pill container in his pocket. He apologized for not stopping and said he just wanted to tell hospital staffers how much he appreciated them for helping them with a previous medical problem.

A witness said Perez forced him off the road earlier near the San Pedro River.

Perez faces charges including reckless driving, unlawful flight from law enforcement and endangerment.
