The Pima County Board of Supervisors is considering a ban of exploding targets Tuesday.

Exploding targets are mixtures of chemicals that explode when they are hit by bullets.

County leaders are calling for a ban, citing it as the cause of the Sawmill Fire, which torched 46,000 acres after an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent shot an exploding target.

Exploding targets are often seen as novelty items, but authorities say they are dangerous and that a ban would help public safety.
