TUCSON, Ariz. - Cochise County officials warned of a jury duty scam.

According to Amy Hunley, Cochise County Clerk of the Superior Court, someone posing as a court officer has been calling people asking for payment, credit card or a social security number to make up for a failure to appear for jury duty.

"Don’t give out personal information by phone or email, and report suspicious activity immediately to your local law enforcement agency," Hunley said in a statement.

Those who don't appear for jury duty will receive an email with this language: “Dear Juror: Our records indicate that you were scheduled for jury service and you FAILED TO APPEAR. You must contact this office at the phone number below immediately. Failure to comply with this request may result in a fine. 520-432-8585.”
