Closing arguments in murder trial for Martin Barreras, father accused of starving child to death

TUCSON, Ariz. — Closing arguments in the murder trial of a Tucson father accused of starving his son to death then putting his body inside a toy box.

50-year-old Martin Barreras is charged with killing three-year-old Roman in 2013.

On Tuesday, the prosecution explained to the jury the callousness of his crime, the family ended up moving away and leaving the boy behind in the box.

The defense explained Barreras was a good father and was not aware of what his wife was doing with their son.

Roman's mother, Raquel Barreras is already serving life with no possibility of parole for the same crime.
