CBP stops meth, heroin smuggling attempts

In a series of separate incidents, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped meth, heroin and cocaine smuggling attempts at the Dennis DeConcini crossing in Nogales, Ariz.

Here's a rundown of the incidents, according to the CBP:

* Officers arrested a 27-year-old man from Hermosillo, Son. Sept. 9 after finding 160 pounds of cocaine hidden in his Hyundai SUV.

* Also Sept. 9, officers arrested a 36-year-old Nogales, Ariz. man after finding 17 pounds of meth in the front wheel of his Dodge van.

* Also Sept. 9, officers arrested a 16-year-old Nogales, Ariz. girl who had three pounds of heroin in her undergarments.

* On Sept. 10, officers arrested a 32-year-old Casa Grande woman after finding half a pound of meth in her underwear.

Officers seized the drugs and vehicles and turned the subjects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
